Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS)

Bear holding sign: we show our pride everywhere

At Greenwood Elementary, we use Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS). Positive Behavior Intervention Support is a school-wide strategy for helping all students achieve important social and learning goals. It is supported by the Colorado Department of Education and the Cherry Creek School District. The goal of PBIS is to promote and maximize academic achievement and behavioral competence. It is also designed to acknowledge students for making great choices and being role models for each other. We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, our students will excel in their learning.

PBIS acknowledges that social and behavioral competence is learned at home, school, and in the community. Teaching positive behavior is more effective than punishing negative behavior. We have developed the acronym B.E.A.R.S. to identify our school-wide expectations for our students:

B = Be Responsible

E = Engage in Learning

A = Act Safely

R = Respect Yourself and Others

S = Show a Positive Attitude
