Martina Richardson is new to Greenwood Elementary this year. Originally from Centennial, CO, Martina has been living and teaching music in Australia for the last six years. She has a Bachelors of Music Education from St. Olaf College and received her Masters Degree in Music from the University of Denver where she studied classical voice. In Australia, Martina taught students in both primary and secondary schools and was the founding director of River Voices, a community singing group comprising three different choirs for children and adults. She is excited to be back in Colorado with her husband, James and is looking forward to skiing.
Philosophy and Goals:
The music program at Greenwood Elementary involves singing songs, creating movement, exploring listening lessons, experimenting with rhythms, celebrating cultural diversity, and integrating Kodaly, Orff, and traditional approaches. Activities are also explored in the related arts of art, drama, theater, dance and literature to develop students' awareness of the varied aspects of a culture's artistic expression. In addition to this comprehensive approach to music, all grade levels perform music programs throughout the school year.
